¿De acero laminado o macizo? Cómo elegir el cuerpo adecuado para un candado

Candado de acero laminado

Buyers who are building a padlock range usually start with the same question: laminated or solid steel? Both are strong, both sell well, and they suit different shelves. Here is how we explain the difference to importers and private-label brands.

Laminated padlocks

A laminated body is built from stamped steel plates riveted together. The layered construction resists cutting well and keeps the unit cost down, which makes it the workhorse of hardware stores and multi-pack promotions.

Solid steel padlocks

A solid body is machined from a single block. It feels heavier in the hand, looks more premium on the peg, and is the usual pick for trailers, gates and storage units where the lock is on show.

Pick the body for the shelf it will hang on, not for the price it quotes at.

Three questions to settle before you order

  • Where will the lock be used — indoors, outdoors, or near salt air?
  • Do you need keyed-alike or master-keyed sets?
  • Which retail price point does the range have to hit?
